In an effort to prepare Dutch for what's to come in the greenspace, Khlyen tells her a fairytale version of the story of how she and Johnny became partners. Kris, Annie, and Stephanie discuss the Season 4 premiere of Killjoys, “The Warrior Princess Bride.”
Reviews
- Annie: I loved this episode! It was an interesting place to start for a season premiere, by going into Johnny and Dutch’s past, since it leaves a lot of questions about the current plot. But Dutch and Johnny’s best-platonic-soulmates-love-story-ever is one of my favorite aspects of the show. Getting a whole hour of it was gold – the backstory is so much more poignant in the fourth season since we as an audience already love these characters so much. But how will Dutch escape The Lady’s attack? How will her finding John be the key? This has me scared for John in the future – no sacrificing John to save the Quad/The J/universe allowed!
- Kris: I really enjoyed the episode, though I have mixed feelings about starting the season with an episode that’s primarily flashbacks. On the one hand, it’s a smart way of easing us back in to the world of the show. But on the other hand, WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE GREENSPACE I NEED TO KNOW??!?!!! I love the intrigue and I love Dutch (Queenie?) and Johnny and I love this show.
- Stephanie: Having the premiere be mainly a flashback is an interesting choice. It's unusual for a season premiere not to feature all of the main cast. We didn't see D'avin at all, and I did miss him. However, this structure allowed the episode to feel like both a Season 1 episode, with Johnny and Dutch having a fun caper and getting into and out of scrapes together, and a Season 4 episode, giving us a glimpse of Khlyen, Aneela, and Dutch in the green space. It was certainly an enjoyable episode, and it focused us on the importance of Dutch and Johnny's relationship, which seems like the potential center of Season 4.
