Back from the green space, Dutch has only Khlyen's story about Johnny to lead her in the right direction to defeat the Lady. Johnny cannot become fully Hullen, but he isn't fully human either, which is causing him physical and mental distress. Delle Seyah and her baby's Hullen abilities pose difficulties as she gets ready to deliver. Kris, Annie, and Stephanie discuss episode 4×04 of Killjoys, “What to Expect When You're Expecting…An Alien Parasite.”
Reviews
- Kris: I really loved this episode! I am having ALL THE EMOTIONS and am exactly the right level of confused. I feel like I mostly understand what we saw of Dutch’s time in the Greenspace, but I don’t know how much of it to trust or what it all means. It was super hard to watch not-Khlyen beat up Dutch. Dutch and Johnny’s reunion was so painful. And we got that contrasted with the humor and worry of the Delle Seyah in labor storyline. D’avin is way more than 8% adorable! I love him and want good things for him. He’s such a decent, supportive guy.
- Stephanie: I feel overwhelmed by this episode, in a good way. It feels like we took kind of a strange route to get here, but this episode really delivered on the story threads introduced in the previous two episodes. It was great having everyone together on Lucy, who got some fantastic lines in this episode. While it was so wonderful to have Dutch back, Zeph, D'avin and Delle Seyah really got their opportunities to shine too, which has been something I've really enjoyed about this season.
- Annie: I thought this episode did a great job of balancing three storylines and giving me all the feels! It was quite an intense hour for me! I love how Delle Seyah showing a range of emotions or as she described “everything” when she was holding her baby – such a perfect way to describe one of the strangest labor/birth scenes ever! The Johnny and Dutch scenes made me almost cry with so much of their history and pain behind all their conversations. And how Johnny actually was cleansed was quite the shocker – I kept hoping it was a hallucination or a trick of the Green when he broke his neck – very stressful! And seeing how The Lady can shapeshift in the Green and how terrifying she is with how she broke Dutch and showing her a possible future where Team Awesome Forces loses – again, stressful! But, all in all, a great episode where every actor had a lot of chances to show range and portray how the stakes keep getting higher. How the heck are they going to defeat The Lady? What even is she?
Thoughts & Questions
- Dutch is back! And reminding us how much we love her.
- Not a typical childbirth scene! No pain, some pain, spinal cord severed! Thanks for doing something different, Killjoys!
- Delle Seyah is human again! And continues to have complicated relationships with the people around her.
- Yay for Zeph standing up to Dutch when healing Johnny! We're getting a nice blend of confident Zeph, which she has been from the beginning, and team player Zeph.
- D'avin is such a good guy. He hasn't had showy storylines this season, but he's been the steady pull.
- “Pretty sure I shot D’av a bunch.” “Yeah, but that’s like a hug in our family by now, so…”
- Do we think Dutch’s flashbacks to the Greenspace are in chronological order?
- If The Lady isn’t Hullen, what is she?
- Kris has a (probably wrong) THEORY about Khlyen’s story
- Solidification of the green: how will Dutch get back into the green now?
- As always, the lighting on Lucy is AMAZING. Everybody’s arms look so great in that scene on the bridge/cockpit.
