Clone Club touches base about the unknown clone who seems to be involved in the GRIT explosion, but they don't realize that Vivi is listening in on the call. Charlotte discovers they aren't dealing with the clone disease when she tries to inoculate the sick clone in the US. Art does his best to handle Jay's questions about Katja, Cosima, and Beth so that he can pass on a warning to Clone Club. Kira notices something strange happening on GeneKeep's servers.
Kris and Stephanie discuss episode 1×04 of Orphan Black: The Next Chapter, “Bread and Pottages.”
Title Reference
“Freedom is dangerous but it's precious, too. You can't just throw it away or let it slip away. You can't sell it for bread and pottage.”
Octavia E. Butler, Parable of the Sower
- That quote is itself likely a reference to the King James Bible translation of the story of Jacob and Esau.
- In the Book of Genesis, Esau sold his birthright as the eldest son to his twin brother Jacob in exchange for a meal of “bread and pottage of lentils” (Gen 25:29-34).
Art & Jay
- Art falls back into his old role, shielding Clone Club from law enforcement
- Video looping — Probably Vivi's doing, but who blew up the lab? Who stole the paper files?
- Sauveterre, who is a Nasgwine'g Quebecois separatist, is the prime suspect for Jay's superiors, but she isn't buying it
- Sauveterre was mentioned in Delphine's security meeting; Jay seems to have more info about his group's opposition to genetic modification
- GeneKeep just obtained the DNA from the Nasgwine'g community… Hrm…
- Jay says she got Vivi's name from a CIA operative who called looking for Vivi. Was this Arun? Seems unlikely he would have given her identity to Canadian authorities if Vivi was supposed to be there secretly.
Clone Swap? Vivi in Bailey Downs
- Vivi digging the bullet out of her leg reminded Stephanie of Sarah trying to patch up her leg with a tampon after Rachel shot her
- Vivi's main vice seems to be gummy bears, but does her chewing the Vicodin suggest she might also have a painkiller problem like Beth and Alison? Or is it just habit from previous field injuries?
- A blonde woman approaching Vivi with a German shepherd sounds like Ainsley spotting Felix waiting in the car outside of Alison's house in season 1.
- What does the nosy neighbor’s scrutiny of “Alison” tell us? Has Alison had further drug problems over the years or are her neighbors keeping her under a microscope still? Vivi’s snooping seemed to indicate the Hendrixes are living pretty clean.
Clone Call!
- Increased airport security, going to be expanded to the borders (“It's difficult to roll these security measures back—human rights be damned”)
- Run-in with Vivi at the airport
- Cosima reveals the RCMP knows she was at GRIT before the explosion
- Tension surrounding going public about being clones between the older clones and Charlotte
Charlotte & Embarrassing Aunt Alison
- Charlotte is a great “straight man” to Alison being ridiculous
- CHARLOTTE DOESN'T MIND ART BEING OVERPROTECTIVE BECAUSE HE JUST WANTS HER TO KNOW SHE IS SAFE AND SHE DOESN'T WANT HIM TO WORRY
- Charlotte demonstrates at the hospital that she is Such a Leda.
- It’s not the clone disease! Why’d you take the gloves off, Charlotte?????
Kira
- Kira is breaking rules and feeling alive! (Thank you for acknowledging that she shouldn't be drinking coffee in the lab.) Maybe she's making a mistake, but it's her choice to make.
- Difference between the mobile DNA processing units at the airports versus GeneKeep's sequencers
- Kira's got a crush on Emeline!
- Network slowness and late night downloads are fishy as hell. Who is exploiting GeneKeep's databases?
