Aneela brings Johnny and D'avin into the Greenspace to fight the Lady, which has surprising consequences.
Quick Reviews
Kris: This show is so bonkers and I wish more shows would try to be bonkers in a similar way. It feels like there’s a specific goal in the writers’ room to think about things differently, and I really appreciate it. I have mixed feelings about revisiting characters’ low points, but I suppose that’s ultimately the point. (I always get mad about bringing back dead characters to make protagonists and audiences sad.) There were some interesting thoughts about grief, especially from Pree. And it was really good to see Aneela with Team Awesome Force. It’s an uneasy alliance, but not as bad as I feared it might be. I feel like coparenting is actually a viable future! Finally, it’s been a few days since the episode aired, and I still don’t know how to feel about the end of the episode. There are definitely some interesting avenues to explore here, but I hope they don’t spend too much time with it. I want resolution for the story we’ve been watching the last four seasons, not the last four minutes!
Annie: Oh my god, this episode was such a mind frak! I find it interesting how we still never see the true face of The Lady, but that’s what she’s good at – torturing Team Awesome Force and Aneela with the faces that are the most familiar to them. I actually thought it was fascinating to see the likes of Pawter and Banyon back, to see how The Lady accessed and used so many memories against everyone. But that ending! As per usual, I ended up this episode worried about our heroes. Worried about Aneela left in the Green – is she still alive? What alternate universe did we end up in? Johnny and Dutch married and living in boring domestic bliss is interesting – I can’t decide if I love it or if it’s just weird to see them kissing! And the Jaqobis brothers are no more?? And why are villains always hidden in the guise of a creepy looking child? And how friggin long until next season so we can see where this crazy ride goes next?!
Thoughts & Questions
- Having characters go into memories isn’t anything new, but Killjoys is doing it in a way I can’t remember ever seeing before.
- Not that it really matters, but is Dutch still in Aneela’s body?
- It sure is lucky that Dutch has the same aptitude with the green that Aneela does and was able to conjure the spore and get herself and the Jaqobis out of the greenspace.
- That ENDING. WHAT THE HELLS, KILLJOYS?!
- How long do we think this is going to last in season 5?
- How long do we think things have been like this?
- WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO US, WRITERS?
As mentioned in the episode, here is the TV Junkies interview with Adam Barken.
