Dutch trains Jaq to fight The Lady, and her tactics cause tension between her and D’avin. Their search for clues Khlyen left in Dutch’s story memory attracts the attention of someone dangerous. Pred and Fancy team up to find Gared, and Zeph tried to help Pip. Kris, Annie, and Stephanie discuss the sixth episode of the fourth season of Killjoys, “Baby, Face Killer.”
Quick Reviews
- Annie: I thought this episode was okay. I don’t know why Dutch is so gung ho about training Jaq to be an assassin already, but I like the conflict it created between her relentless desire to have a weapon against The Lady and D’avin’s newly minted fatherly concerns. Though I don’t think it’s the smartest move for D’avin and Jaq to go off alone.
- Kris: I really liked this episode! I like that the show is using Jaq’s presence as a means of exploring the main characters’ issues. As hard as it is to watch D’avin confront Dutch about her history with Khlyen, I’m glad it’s happening. Their relationship has been evolving throughout the duration of the show, but it’s always felt unresolved/FAR too complicated. I appreciate that Killjoys is so interested in talking about it.
- Stephanie: I thought this episode was pretty good. I'm still a little skeptical about having a kid in the mix, even though he does have a name now, thankfully, but I liked how he was used in this episode to explore dynamics with D'avin, Dutch, and even Delle Seyah a bit. I didn't really care for the turn Pip's, and by extension Zeph's, storyline took in this episode, but otherwise I thought there was some good stuff here.
Thoughts & Questions
Dutch, D'avin & The Kid
- (Jaqobis) Ozzman Kin Rit (he has a name!!!) D'avin's face when he chose the name Jaq was THE BEST.
- “he’s my memory nephew-brother-son” – thank you, show, for recognizing how weird this situation is
- “I'll take it from here, Papa.” SO SEXY OHMYGOD
- Why did Dutch almost go too far with Jaq? Dutch is getting desperate, probably fueled by that vision-connection with Aneela in the greenspace.
- Dutch seems to be painting a rosier picture of her upbringing than she did back in Season 1. Do we think that learning more about Khlyen's motivations, spending time with him in the greenspace, has caused her to reshape her feelings/memories of him a bit?
- D'avin and Dutch's disagreement was great. Jaqobis are always there to help Dutch confront hard truths.
- Why did D'avin decide to leave the ship with Jaq?
Assassin Clue
- Do we think that guy was working for The Lady? He didn't seem to be a fan.
- Is there more to learn from that woman's face? Or was Khlyen's purpose in including it in Dutch's memory to attract the attention of Cyanider?
Pree & Fancy
- Fun dynamic with Pree more emotional and wanting to jump in paired with Fancy's cautiousness
- “You didn't have to make him think you were going to cut [his hand] off.” “He didn't have to shoot me.”
- I feel like I missed a scene…how did we go from scanning the scruffy guy's hand to Pree being taken aboard the RAC by the Hullen?
- Pree’s WiFi cheekbones
Delle Seyah
- Looking more like her old human self, wardrobe- and hair-wise
- Where did Delle Seyah go if she didn't go to Qresh?
- How does that spider fit in Pip’s brain? It looked bigger than that! (Yeah, it really did.)
- Good Johnny and Dutch stuff, but Stephanie wanted more Johnny! He kinda disappeared toward the end of the episode. (From last ep: Johnny making amends with Zeph)
