We discuss our initial reactions to the fifth episode of Season 2 of Orphan Black, “Ipsa Scientia Potestas Est.”

In reaction to Daniel Rosen’s death, Rachel lashes out at Sarah by going after the people Sarah cares about. Meanwhile, Art tries to get information about the Proletheans from Helena, and Cosima and Delphine explore a promising treatment for the clones’ respiratory illness.

Sarah

• Brings Helena to Felix for babysitting.
• Getting rejected by Kira.
• Kind of working behind the scene (or offscreen) this episode.
• Teams up with Art again. Finds info about Rachel’s father.
• Being a sister to Helena.
• Meets with Leekie to make a trade – Swan Man for Felix
• Where are she and Helena headed?

Helena

• Nice pants.
• Interrogation by Art. True to Felix’s advice, food works.
• Sniper Helena is back. She is both terrifying and hilarious.
• When is she going to destroy the farming Proletheans?

Kira & Cal

• Kira’s rebelling against Sarah.
• Cal has a stash of money, a gun, and fake ID. Why???
• They’re pretty darn cute together. Cal’s really nurturing.

Felix

• POOR FELIX. Everybody hates Paul now.
• But COLIN! Stephanie is pleased. Very pleased.
• Kudos for queer sexytimes!
• Felix and Helena interaction – we love it!

Art

• NEVER TURN YOUR BACK ON HELENA.

Rachel & Paul

• (Terminator) Paul is back. But we’re reminded that he is a pawn of Dyad.
• Rachel has always been self-aware but data is collected on her just like all the other clones. Confirms she outranks Leekie.
• Disturbing sex scene between Rachel & Paul – yes, we think this was a sexual assault.
• Where do Paul’s loyalties lie?

Cosima & Delphine

• Discover the stem cell line treatment
• Team up with Leekie – do we trust him? He reveals the original genome has been lost.
• Delphine holding Cosima’s hand for the shot (ADORABLE.)
• “We have a proposition for you.” “We do?” – as adorable as Science Girlfriends are, Cosima has a connection to the other clones that’s apart from her relationship with Delphine.

Prolethean Farmers

• Tomas had “old ways.” SHEESH!
• Gracie punished for not telling. Mark brings her milk.
• Reveal that they do plan for Helena to carry the zygote we saw last episode.
• If they can’t find her, Gracie will be forced to carry the child.
