Colors are an important part of visual storytelling. Not only do they provide visual appeal, they are used to enhance the mood or to indicate the shifting emotions of a scene, and colors can also be used to distinguish one storyline from another. We discuss how colors were used in Season 4 of Lost Girl to shape characters’ storylines as well as highlight the season’s theme of memory.

While Lost Girl has provided very refreshing portrayals of queer characters, it unfortunately has fallen into the same pattern as many sci-fi/fantasy shows in regards to its representation of non-white characters. We discuss how non-white characters have been portrayed on Lost Girl, including how Hale’s storyline has been treated as well as the show’s use of the human/Fae divide as a metaphor to talk about race.
Half Pint: Necklaces — Episode 52
Lauren’s Light Fae pendant has always been an important symbol on Lost Girl for Lauren’s servitude to The Ash. However, she left the Fae and took off the pendant in Season 3 and has not worn it since. Season 4 introduced another significant necklace, a gift from Lauren to Bo. We discuss how Bo’s necklace serves as an interesting counterpoint to Lauren’s necklace as well as talk about a couple other meaningful necklaces on the show.
