As part of our ongoing series of discussions about parallels that might be made between Lost Girl and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, we discuss how Trick serves a similar role on Lost Girl as Giles does on Buffy. We also discuss that unlike the other original characters Hale lacks a clear parallel character on Buffy. But we do suggest that he shares quite a bit in common with a character from another show within the Buffyverse.
Half Pint: Massimo — Episode 45
Massimo was introduced at the end of Season 3 as a mysterious, sexy troublemaker, encouraging Kenzi to feel insecure about her place in the Fae world, but by the end of Season 4 Massimo had revealed himself to be a deeply troubled individual with a massive Oedipus complex. We discuss Massimo as Kenzi’s “drug dealer,” how he compares to Bo, his sartorial choices, and more.
Half Pint: Crystal — Episode 44
Crystal was a big hit with Kris and Stephanie — they would have pizza and beer and vent with her anytime. She was a likeable, interesting character in her own right, and our love for Betty McRae, Ali Liebert’s character on Bomb Girls, only added to our affection toward Crystal. We discuss the moments that made us like Crystal, some Bomb Girls references you may have missed, and why Crystal needs to come back in season 5.
4×13 “Dark Horse” — Episode 43
Bo must confront the effects of her and Rainer’s alliance which released a hell beast, but first she has to deal with Massimo who has kidnapped Lauren to bait Bo. Dyson, Tamsin, and Trick try to hold off the hell beast’s undead army in the meantime, and Kenzi realizes that she might, in fact, have a role to play in the fight.
4×12 “Origin” — Episode 42
Bo discovers that a second curse will kill Rainer in a very short while, and they go on a quest to break the curse with the help of one of Rainer’s former lieutenants. In her grief, Kenzi turns to Bo, Dyson, and Vex to help her go after Massimo. Meanwhile, Lauren overhears The Morrigan threaten Bo, but she has a plan to deal with her.
For Hale’s a Jolly Good Fellow — Episode 41
We love on K.C. Collins this week and share our appreciation for Hale and the actor who plays him. We talk about our favorite Hale moments, what we love about Hale, and sing the praises of our favorite siren.
4×11 “End of a Line” — Episode 40
When undead assassins come after Bo, Tamsin and a surprisingly not-dead Acacia insist that Bo investigate who sent them after her, implying that Rainer might be responsible. Meanwhile, Kenzi worries about Hale wanting to talk to her about something important and is shocked when her mother shows up at the clubhouse. Trick shares stories of Vex’s father with Vex while angling to get some information for himself.
4×10 “Waves” — Episode 39
Trying to take their minds off of the tense situation with Bo, Kenzi convinces Lauren and Dyson to help her take on a case for a client whose legs were amputated as she went for a swim. Meanwhile, Bo and Rainer commit an act that is bound to have serious repercussions.
4×09 “Destiny’s Child” — Episode 38
In effort to answer her lingering questions about what happened to her while she was with The Wanderer, Bo opens the mysterious jar she sent herself. Meanwhile, Trick visits an old friend to help him recover a memory he fears he blocked, and Kenzi and Tamsin try to find out what Trick is hiding.
Recap of a Conversation with Zoie Palmer, Kris Holden-Ried & Vanessa Piazza — Episode 37
Stephanie was fortunate enough to get to participate in a media conference call with Kris Holden-Ried, Zoie Palmer, and producer Vanessa Piazza. They talked about Lauren and Dyson’s evolving relationship, starting season 4 without Anna Silk, the much maligned Amber wig, eating food while filming, and more.
