In desperation after Kira’s kidnapping, Sarah turns herself over to Dyad. Rachel is also getting desperate and lashing out at Sarah and others. Cosima plots to help Sarah escape, while Mrs. S finds an unlikely ally within Dyad who reveals a surprising element of the clone experiment. Also, there’s dancing.
Kira
- Kira steals the nurse’s phone and calls Cal because she’s awesome
- Science lesson with Auntie Cosima!
Sarah
- Poor Sarah! What with the invasive medical questions and all. Also, handcuffs.
- Interesting that the audience gets to hear her answers to some questions but not others
- Being forced to “consent” to having a medical procedure
Rachel
- “You have everything you wanted.” “Everything Dyad wanted.”
- Are we supposed to feel sorry for Rachel when she’s crying about Duncan? Because I just can’t. She’s too awful.
- Pencil to the eye. DESERVED IT.
Cosima (& Delphine)
- Poor Delphine. Why are you so mean, Rachel?
- Devising a plan to help Sarah escape
- I was going to be so pissed at her if she didn’t open her eyes. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DIE, COSIMA.
- But now she has Duncan’s notes in the book
Helena
- Found her way back to Art’s apartment
- Still not really willing to talk to Art and Felix
- Where was she intending to go when she left Felix’s loft?
- WHY DID THE MILITARY ABDUCT HER???
Clone Club
- Meeting Helena
- DANCING AKA clone-clubbing (Extended version of the dance scene)
- The song that plays during the dance scene is “Water Prayer Rasta Mix (Matt the Alien Remix)” by Adham Shaikh, and it was included in the writer’s playlist for Cosima.
- We’re glad that Kira and Felix were included
Mrs S.: International Badass, Cal & Paul
- Who was Mrs. S calling and talking about car bombs?
- Paul is back with the military (was he always a double agent?)
- Cal connected the dots about the clones & connects Mrs. S and Paul to Marian Bowles
- “I can actually use the internet, Cal.” “No, you can’t.”
- “It’s with a ‘bh.’”
Marian Bowles
- Topside -what is it exactly?
- Mother to a new generation of clone
- The woman in Dyad seems to be an ally
- Says she, like Sarah’s mother, is “invested,” which is the word Delphine used after learning about Cosima’s illness in the premiere
- Will she have a more prominent role next season? Or will she even be in next season?
Stray Thoughts
- Title comes from the Aphorisms section of The New Organon
- Gracie and Mark got married.
- Dr. Nealon is probably named after Aubrey Nealon, one of the show’s producers/writers
- Stephanie doesn’t think Helena brought back Felix’s awesome coat. Goodbye Felix’s coat.
- Duncan tells Sarah not to despair, just as Sammy told Beth not to despair
Feedback
- Thoughts about Rachel
From Janice: The “I’m not a gullible OB viewer” in me is wondering if Rachel is dead; if the cast and creators keep saying she’s dead at Comic Con, in the press, interviews, etc., that will raise a red flag in my mind that perhaps she’s alive and now missing an eye; just think, she can come back with an eye patch looking like a pirate “arghhhh”! (she did look dead, didn’t she?)
From Lisa: I wonder if Rachel will survive the pencil to the brain and go after Sarah for revenge.
From Bob: One pencil? Their big weapon against Rachel was one pencil? What if it bounced off her nose? Was Willow Rosenberg guiding it? I didn’t get that at all. From the Cosima/Kira science scene, I expected a whole swarm of pencils. So, for season 3, Rachel – eye patch or bionic laser weapon?
- Thoughts about the Castor Clones
From Greg: I love the direction the show is going in. It does make sense you would have male clones, and I think that dynamic as potential to be really cool next season.
From Dee: And then that plot twist with all male clones!! I screamed in utter delight and joy:)
From Annette: Nice touch that Mark is a clone!
From Janice: I don’t think the Project Castor story line will be a distraction nor do I believe that it will detract from Tatiana’s future performances of on air time; if anything, I see it as the writer’s way to touch upon the topic of sexism and gender roles
From Bob: If there were going to be male clones, I had hoped that they would be Felix clones. Ari (Mark) had better be a great actor, Tatiana has set the bar very high.
From Colby: I think most of us fans knew that male clones were a possibility, but I wasn’t exactly stoked to see them so soon, and apparently being presented as a major element of a season finale cliffhanger. There are too many loose ends with the central clone club characters, and throwing in the dude-clones may threaten to just wipe out the main appeal of the series, at least for me.
From Jessalyn: I’ve always hoped that they wouldn’t introduce another set of clones, but I knew they inevitably would. They’ve really expanded the Orphan Black universe this season and particularly in this episode, introducing Project Castor and the military, Topside and a younger version of Project Leda clone. I have faith in the showrunners but I just hope that this expansion doesn’t take too much focus off of Sarah, the clone club and the more character-based elements of the story. …I saw a lot of people saying they had hoped it would be Felix that was the clone but personally I’m really glad they didn’t go down that path, he’s already such an important member of the clone club.
- Thoughts about Mark
From Davia: Did Henrik know, Mark, Gracie’s boyfriend was a clone? Does Mark know he is a clone? Is this why Henrik did not use Mark’s sperm to fertilize Helena’s eggs (2-clone-offspring). Was Mark a way of setting up the Proletheans?
A post-episode interview with Graeme Manson and John Fawcett indicates that Mark does not know that he is clone, therefore it’s unlikely that Henrik did though not impossible.
- Thoughts about Paul
From Davia: Was infiltrating Dyad a part of Paul’s military assignment from before meeting Beth? Did Marian set it up? Was Dyad duped by him? What was the end goal if they didn’t know about Sarah?
From Jessalyn: I’m alittle confused about Paul. We’re they telling us that he’s been with Project Castor the whole time and was spying on Dyad/Project Leda for them.
Yes, the post-episode interview with Graeme and John says that Paul was an agent of the military, working undercover in Dyad since we met him.
- Thoughts about Delphine
From Janice: That scene with Delphine….are the writers trying to get viewers paranoid into speculating that Delphine may be dead??
From Kornelia: But I was wondering what you guys thought of the Delphine-dream thing, & what it means? And what do you think will happen to Cophine now that Delphine is seemingly gone?
From Jessalyn: Delphine, poor Delphine. I’ve felt bad for her since the end of last season. She always tries to do what she thinks is right for Cosima and it always blows up in her face. I have to wonder what Dyad have over her to make her leave Cosima in her current health state. I hope she gets a bigger part to play next season.
From Lisa: With Rachel incapacitated or dead, will Delphine get a reprieve from her banishment to Frankfurt? Please, please, please?
- Thoughts about Helena’s Kidnapping
From Janice: I’m still wondering why Helena was taken away; I’m thinking maybe to preserve her as a subject to study since the military has to stay “hands off” of Sarah
From Colby: Here’s how I think we’re supposed to see the story: Cal and Siobhan hatch the idea to turn Helena over to the military, in return for the military providing Marian with information on Project Castor. Marian then agrees to let Kira and Sarah go free. What??? Marian already has a dude-clone in her freakin’ basement! If Marian is supposed to be a “good” insider in a corrupt organization(as Siobhan tells Cal), why would she enter a deal that puts another sister in captivity?
From Bob: I assume that Mrs. S. made a deal to give them someone that they could continue their fertility experiments on (Helena) in exchange for Sarah and Kira. This is consistent with the way Mrs. S. has been played – we don’t know whether she is good or evil, but she is acting to protect Kira.
- Thoughts about Clone Club Bonding
From Lisa: I absolutely loved the “Clone Dance Club” scene and the way each clone showed her personality in the way she danced! At first I thought it was odd that Kira stayed back by the bed, but I assume it made it easier to film. I can’t even imagine how long it took to film that scene. I did have a moment where I thought, “Oh, now you’re just showing off!” but mostly I just sat back and enjoyed the seestras having some fun.
From Colby: [Loved] All the clone-club bonding moments. Sarah and Cosima in Felix’ bed (I pretty much lost it then), Helena meeting Cosima and Alison, the reggae dance.
From Dee: Shock, Cringe, Sad Face for Cosima was my expression for this entire episode. Until the dance sequence to end all dance sequences!!
From Jessalyn: The clone club dance party was fantastic, but of course seeing everybody having fun and being happy convinced me that Cosima was going to die (I blame Joss Whedon for this) The scene between Sarah and Cosima was sweet and sad and actually made me cry.
From Bob: The dance scene with four clones was amazing.
From Greg: As for the Clone dance scene, I thought I would hate it but I loved it. For one, it was a brilliant technical achievement, but also, I liked how this episode ended on a high note. Yeah, Helena got taken, but I don’t think anything bad is going to happen to her. Considering the crap everyone went through this season, we got to see happiness and the four of them together was amazing. I don’t mind if a show goes to dark areas, but I love that there is some joy to it, some sense of feeling hope and at the end of the episode, I got that. I was afraid this finale was going to be violent and there would be many deaths occurring but that wasn’t really the case. I can go into the hiatus with questions but not bothered by a really big cliffhanger.
From Lisa: After Rachel trying for so long to get Sarah to come to Dyad, that whole part of the episode seemed to be resolved awfully fast.
- From Colby:
Hated: Almost no Alison. This is unforgivable for the season finale. The only good thing one can glean from her brief appearance is that she and Donnie are still on track to saving their marriage.
- From Jessalyn:
Loved the scene of Helena meeting her sisters and reuniting with Kira. It’s amazing how far her character has come from the beginning of the series considering she murders Katja and tries to kill Beth/Sarah when we first meet her and is now so endearing and sympathetic. I wonder if the same can happen for Rachel, or maybe she’s too far gone.
- From Annette:
Rachel, the sister from hell. She has no soul as Cosima said in a previous episode. She is just plain mean, a machine. However I was surprised that she referred to Sarah as her sister. Rachel resents Sarah so! I don’t know if she can be transformed.
